In today's message, Pastor Scott preaches about 3 lessons we can learn from the life of Jesus' younger brother, James. Follow along using Pastor Scott's outline below. Please help us spread the good news by sharing it with others!

Let's Learn From James

James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.

~ James 1:1

1.  Your family is watching you, just because they haven’t believed in Jesus yet does not mean that they won’t.

Then they scoffed, “He’s just the carpenter’s son, and we know Mary, his mother, and his brothers—James, Joseph,Simon, and Judas. 56 All his sisters live right here among us. Where did he learn all these things?”

57 And they were deeply offended and refused to believe in him. Then Jesus told them, “A prophet is honored everywhere except in his own hometown and among his own family.”

~ Matthew 13:55-57

One time Jesus entered a house, and the crowds began to gather again. Soon he and his disciples couldn’t even find time to eat. 20 When his family heard what was happening, they tried to take him away. “He’s out of his mind,” they said.

~ Mark 3:20-21

Then Jesus’ mother and brothers came to see him. They stood outside and sent word for him to come out and talk with them.

~ Mark 3:31

For even his brothers didn’t believe in him.

~ John 7:5

They all met together and were constantly united in prayer, along with Mary the mother of Jesus, several other women, and the brothers of Jesus.

~ Acts 1:14

2.  Just because you came to Christ later than others doesn’t mean they will always be your leaders.

When James, Peter and John, recognized as pillars, acknowledged the grace that had been given to me, they gave the right hand of fellowship to me and Barnabas, agreeing that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised.

~ Galatians 2:9

3.  It is more important to play a good game than to talk a good game.

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

~ James 1:22

So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. 18 But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.

~ James 2:17-18
